Goosewell RE and World Views Curriculum

Intent

  • To build a curriculum for RE and World Views with appropriate subject knowledge, skills and understanding as set out in the Plymouth Agreed Syllabus for RE.
  • To fulfil the duties of the curriculum whereby schools must provide a balanced and broadly-based curriculum which promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils and prepares them for the opportunities and responsibilities and experiences for later life.

At Goosewell Academy, we aim for a high quality RE Curriculum which is accessible to all and should inspire and engage all pupils.

The principal aim is to explore what people believe and what difference this makes to how they live, so that pupils can gain the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to handle questions raised by religion and belief, reflecting on their own ideas and ways of living.

We want children to enjoy and engage in learning about World Views and through this understanding promote tolerance and acceptance. At Goosewell Academy we aim to provide the children with the confidence to ask challenging questions but to also agree and disagree respectfully.

Implementation

At Goosewell, we have implemented the Plymouth Agreed syllabus. Each term, the children study a new topic which focuses on both Christianity and World Religions and beliefs. This spiral themed curriculum allows children to make sense of both religious and non-religious beliefs. To understand the impact and significance that these can have on people and communities and to start making possible connections between them.

In ensuring high standards of teaching and learning in RE and World Views, we aim to implement a curriculum that is progressive throughout the whole school and will continue into secondary school.
